Kathleen Rae Bateman

1943 – 2022
Kathleen Rae Bateman, 79, born March 16, 1943, in Murray, UT, passed away peacefully April 7, 2022, in Provo, UT from natural causes.
Born to Lynn Lamont Bateman, Sr. and Helen Louise Schmidt, Kathy was the “Rae” of sunshine in her parents’ eyes. She had a delightful childhood, but all of that changed 6 months after her baptism by her father, as he suddenly and unexpectedly passed away. This event was pivotal in her life and she would forever refer back to his sweet and comforting presence.
Kathy attended schools in Salt Lake City, Panguitch, and Spanish Fork UT, graduating in 1961. She continued her education at Brigham Young University where she graduated with a teaching degree in elementary education, following which she taught in Eureka, Salt Lake City, and in Utah county.
Kathy was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in various positions. She developed many lasting relationships through the single adult programs which she so enjoyed. Kathy was always interested in lifting and building others around her.
Family history was especially meaningful to Kathy and she was the “guardian” of many family photos and mementos. Having grown up around her grandmother who joined the church and immigrated from Germany prior to WWI, she was transformed by their tale of incredible dedication against great odds, and loved sharing the commitment to her faith that began with her ancestors. As such her faith has been a driving force and in her own words was “a membership which she prized highly.”
She was a beloved Aunt to her brother’s seven children, which then extended to many great-nieces and nephews. She put emphasis on remembering the dates and events that were important to others.
She was a very devoted and attentive caregiver to her grandmother and mother in their final years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Dr. Lynn L. Bateman, Jr., a niece Melissa Bateman, a nephew Matthew Bateman, and grandnephews Theodore Lynn Nemelka and David Matthew Elkington.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Joan Bateman (Mapleton), Nephews Brad L. (Kathleen) Bateman Salem, OR, Jeffery L. (Tammy) Bateman Roy, UT, nieces Arianne (David) Nemelka Springville, UT, Kristen L. (Mathew) Evans Temecula CA, Alese (David) Elkington Mapleton, UT, and many other great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 16, 2022, at the Berg Drawing Room Chapel, 185 East Center Street, Provo, Utah. Friends may visit with the family from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at www.bergmortuary.com.
