Larry Lee Kitchen

Larry Lee Kitchen passed from this mortal existence April 28, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.

Larry was born September 15, 1925 in Lovell, Wyoming to Thomas Lee Kitchen and Myrtle Asay Kitchen. Thomas and Myrtle had 7 children: Norval, Hazel, Arlo, Josephine, Larry, Levora, and Beverly. Wanting to give their family a better life Thomas and Myrtle moved their family in 1935 from Lovell to Orem, Utah.

Larry attended Orem schools and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1943, with WW2 raging around the world, Larry wanted to do his part but was to young, just shy of 18 years old, to join the regular military, Larry and a friend Leon Aiken, joined the Merchant Marines and sailed around the world performing his patriotic duty.

With the war over, Larry returned home, met, and fell in love with Janet Baxter from Spring City, Utah. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on October 25, 1946. Larry would often tell anyone who would listen that the first time he saw Janet he knew she was the girl for him.

Larry worked at various jobs in his lifetime. He excelled at educating himself and developed the skills necessary to provide a wonderful life for his family. He cleaned box cars at Geneva Pipe and mopped floors at BYU. He delivered milk for Meadow-Gold and made Minuteman missiles at Hercules, where he retired. He received his greatest joy teaching his kids how to work.

Larry and Janet were life-long members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in various capacities. Together, they served a mission in the Madrid Spain Mission (1998-1990). Janet, Larry’s wife of nearly 57 years died in 2003. But for Larry life was not over. He married Henny Gautier in 2006. Larry and Henny had 14 wonderful years together. Henny passed in 2020. Larry developed a great relationship with Henny’s children: Lars, Karen-ann, Dean, and Lisa.

Larry is survived by his 7 children: Marilyn Broderick (Dillard), Larry Alan Kitchen (Patsy), David Lee Kitchen (Christine), Jeannine Biggs (Sam), Sheila Krehbiel (Doug), Diane Kitchen, Nadine Dye (Corey); 26 grandkids, 67 great-grandkids and 8 great-great-grand kids. Larry was so proud to have photographs of 5 generations of family.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 9, 2022, 11:00 am at the Grandview 14th building, 1122 Grand Avenue, Provo, Utah. Visitations will be Sunday, May 8, 2022, 6:00-8:00 pm at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem and prior to services at the church from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday, May 9th.

Interment will be in Orem City Cemetery, 1520 North 800 East, Orem, Utah with Military Honors.
