Roxann Barney

Aug 3, 2022

Flowers, fresh baked bread, perfectly curled hair, music in the background, smiles, and warmth are but only a few of the attributes that made up the incredible woman we lovingly know as Roxann Barney. Her sweet spirit and genuine love and care for others made this earthly world feel like heaven on a daily basis. Being a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and teacher were her favorite and most cherished titles.

Roxann was a beautiful artist. Whether it was paint, fabric, flowers, or with food, she made everything in life a little brighter, more beautiful, and full of love. She was a meticulous record keeper, just like her mother Harriett, and she was a busy body like her father Garth. She loved to start her day with her “walking girls” waking up before the sun came up. Her makeup and hair done by 7am, on her couch reading her scriptures by 7:10am, and making a hot breakfast for whoever was there that day.

The Lord came first in her life and everyone around her knew it and felt Him through her. Rod and Roxann were married in 1975 in the Salt Lake City Temple. She loved her callings in Relief Society and Young Women’s, especially her time spent at Camp Koholowo. She served two LDS Temple missions (Palmyra Temple, Washington D.C. Temple, and Boston Temple) with her husband Rod and quickly developed a love for the East Coast. Tandem bike rides by the river in Palmyra, New York, the beauty and extravagance of the D.C. Temple, and their loving missionary friends in Boston were what she reminisced about.

Patience was a virtue that she had in abundance and it showed in her everyday life. So, naturally, she became the best preschool teacher to most of Salem from the years 1988-2015. Some will remember the field trips to the grotto, many the homemade snacks, but they will ALL remember that they could be away from their mom & dad and they would be so loved by Miss Barney.

We always teased Mother that she would be “twinkled” early because there wasn’t a more angelic person on Earth and I guess Heavenly Father agreed. Alzheimer’s may have been his way of taking her early and at times it may have been frustrating, but in the end it allowed all of us to give our sweet mother back a small portion of what she had spent her life doing: Serving others.

“Grandma Days” were a priority because they were her greatest treasure. Her grandchildren loved gingerbread houses, noodles, applesauce with ice cream, trips to the grotto, her love of treats, and precious snuggles. Her children loved the memories of Lilacs, swing sets, the metal slide, gingersnaps, rice pudding, and ordering dessert first!

Words will never express how much she will be missed! This Earth life would never have been long enough, so thankfully we get her for eternity. Her presence in our life has been our greatest gift. She is preceded in death by her parents Garth and Harriett Hill. She is survived by her husband Rod, son Kyle (Pam) Barney, daughters Jeana (Jon) Haderlie, Rebecca (Brett) Christensen, Teresa (Nate) Reese, her grandchildren, and her siblings Ron, Dave, Lynette, Gordon, and Justin. In the words of her favorite Hymn, “Oh what joy this sweet sentence gives, I know that my redeemer lives.”

We love you sweet Roxy.
