Robert (Bob) Maughan

Aug 12, 2022

1953 – 2022

Robert (Bob) Maughan passed away August 6, 2022, surrounded by his family, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

Bob was born July 21, 1953, in Las Vegas, Nevada to Paul and Ruth Maughan. He was the baby of the family and, according to his three siblings, he was treated as such by his parents.

Bob was always the outgoing type and involved in church and school activities. In high school he played the trumpet in the band, played on the basketball team, and served in student government all three years and was the student body president his senior year.

Bob served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Though his Portuguese didn’t hold up, he loved repeating his select phrases and meeting people from Brazil for many years after.

After his mission Bob attended BYU, where he noticed a beautiful red head in his brother’s accounting class. Bob and Dixie dated for two years when they decided to elope while visiting his parents in Las Vegas. They were sealed in the Provo Temple the following year.

After graduating from BYU, he worked as an accountant and obtained his CPA licensure. He dedicated many hours helping family and friends with their taxes. He also volunteered his time and knowledge as part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

Bob was actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America. He loved to work with the Cub Scouts and the young men, being involved in all aspects of Scouting life from pinewood derbies to campouts. While Bob never earned the rank of Eagle Scout, he made sure that any young man who desired to earn the rank of eagle had the support to do so.

Bob took all his church responsibilities to heart. Whether he was serving as a home teacher, a member of the bishopric, with the Cub Scouts, young men, or the priesthood quorums, he enjoyed getting to know everyone he served. He spent his time meeting people and visiting throughout the neighborhood.

Bob’s love and sense of humor were contagious. It didn’t matter if he was with one person or with a crowd, he knew how to make people laugh and smile. He left a lasting impression on all he met, and we will hold his memory forever in our hearts.

Bob is survived by his wife, Dixie, of 43 years; two sons, Clark and Andrew (Nohemy); two daughters, Amber and Angela; and six wonderful grandchildren, Noah, Jasani, Alma, Aaliyah, Tamia, and Wilford. He is also survived by his siblings, Beth Tingey, Paul (Susan), and Heber (Ann), and many nieces and nephews. Bob was welcomed home by his parents and his in-laws, Dixon and Patricia Anderson.

Bob was an organ donor and was able to donate his corneas to the Moran Eye Center. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Huntsman Cancer Institute as well as at Utah Valley Hospital for the exceptional care and attention given.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 13, 2022 at the Grandview 17th Ward, 1122 Grand Avenue, Provo, Utah. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Friday, August 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, August 13, from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at www.bergmortuary.com. Webcast information is available at www.bergmortuary.com.
