Lois Patricia Rusche

Aug 16, 2022

1944 — 2022

We lovingly announce the passing of our mother, sister, wife, grandmother, and friend Patricia.

Lois Patricia Lewis was born to Walter Roderic and Lois McDonald Lewis in the Los Angeles suburb of Van Nuys, California. As the eldest girl of 13 children, she helped feed and care for the family, beginning her lifelong journey of gentle caregiver.

Patricia was an excellent student and lifelong learner. She moved to Utah to attend BYU, where she married Gary Gibson, who had followed her after they met at church in the Sherman Oaks area of California. They were married in the Los Angeles Temple. She was dedicated to the Savior and paired that with her love of learning. She especially enjoyed attending Education Week and listening to LDS Church conferences. She served in ward missionary callings and continued her mother’s tradition of arranging flowers each week for her ward.

Patricia wanted a large family. She and Gary Gibson had 7 beautiful children. She was the proud grandmother of many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ronald Rusche and Patricia met and married in 2002 after they were inspired and encouraged to try online dating. They were married in the Mount Timpanogos temple and have enjoyed more than 20 years together. They loved serving as missionaries, caring for their mothers until each passed, doing genealogy and temple work, being actively engaged as parents and grandparents, and being devoted in callings in their ward.

Patricia loved trying new things, especially food. “I’m a taster” was a favorite saying her kids would often repeat. She loved new opportunities and serving those she loved. She shared in the joys and successes of those she cared about, from her children and ward members to several others that she helped get housing and government aid. She was gentle and kind to all.

Patricia loved to read and was part of several book clubs during the last years of her life. She loved to be surrounded by books and shared them with friends and family. She took notes about nearly everything, from talks in church and conference to business and real estate meetings and ideas.

Patricia was raised in an entrepreneurial family. She furthered that talent throughout her life. She was a creative real estate agent, and her “three way trade” was featured in Rich Dad’s The Real Book of Real Estate, by Robert Kiosaki. She worked with her children on their projects and businesses.

Patricia was very close with her mother Lois. She and Ron lived with and cared for Lois in the final years of her 98-year life. She passed away in her home as was her strong desire. Patricia passed in the same home as her mother, having been lovingly cared for by her husband Ron and their children and ward family.

We wish her well on her journey as she is met with open arms by her family and friends in heaven. We hope she will continue to watch over us all as she continues her service. We miss her and take comfort in that hope.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Roderic and Lois McDonald Lewis, and siblings Walter Jr., Sharon, Samuel, and by brother-in-laws Jay Larsen and Don Hammond.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald Rusche, and her seven children: Karen, Kathy, Greg, Doug, Brad (and Amy), Tim (and Monique) and Rob (and Maria). Her grandchildren are Ian (and Jay) and son Atlas, Ellery, Wesley, Madeline (and Pete Coates), Nicholas (and Evelyn), Jonathan, Zack, Jay and his daughter Rosemary, Tommy, Monty, Remy, Danica, Tyler, and Bailey. Ronald’s children are April, Kristine, Evelyn, Marian, Karen and six grandchildren: Lilly, Shaun, Corin, Issac, Salina, and Amelia.

Patricia was one of 13 children of Walter Roderic and Lois McDonald Lewis, who lived mainly in Van Nuys, California. Her brothers and sisters were Walter Jr., Rick (and Marilyn), Nancy (and Jay Larsen), Anne (and Don Hammond), Sharon, Donald, Bill (and Terry), Bonnie (and Charles Pigg), Tom (and Patty), Samuel, Michael (and Andrea) and Joe (and Linda).
