John Haws Baum

1931 — 2022

John Haws Baum of Orem, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on August 23, 2022. Haws was born September 23, 1931 in Provo, Utah; the son of Newell Haws Baum and Emily Bingham Baum. He married Elaine Orme on August 20, 1954 in the Idaho Falls Temple. Elaine passed away in October 1999, and Haws was blessed to marry Joan Brower Clawson in October, 2000.

Haws was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He taught school in the Alpine School District for 30 years. Many students were blessed with a love of history and geography because of his diligent teaching. Haws served a mission as a young man to the West Central States Mission. He also served with Elaine in the Fresno California Mission and Sydney Australia Mission. He and Joan served as temple workers for many years. Haws is survived by his wife, Joan, four of his five children, 21 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 2, at 11:00 a.m. at Nelson Family Mortuary, 4780 N. University Avenue, Provo, UT. A viewing will be held at the mortuary on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. and prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. There will be a live stream of the funeral.
