Michael David Leavitt 1953 — 2022 Teresa Jean Leavitt 1956 — 2022

Dec 6, 2022

We lost two of our siblings in the past couple weeks.

Michael David Leavitt, born February 13, 1953 in Aberdeen, Maryland passed away December 1, 2022 from cancer. Mike was the firstborn child, coming while our father was stationed at Aberdeen Proving Ground. Mike was the best big brother anyone could want. He was a gentle soul who’d give you the shirt off his back. He cared nothing for material things, concerned instead about peace in the world and giving to others. He loved the Beatles, diet Mountain Dew, Marco Polo videos, and he found joy in the simple things of life…counting how many butterflies he’d seen that day, hearing about something exciting a loved one got to do, watching kids play, brushing his sister’s horses. Even though Michael struggled with mental illness his whole adult life, he was happy and he smiled and laughed a lot. He loved God and he had read the Bible 57 times and the Book of Mormon 32 times.

Teresa Jean Leavitt, born August 12, 1956 in Las Vegas, Nevada passed away November 23, 2022 from kidney disease. Teresa was the third child and oldest girl in her family. She also dealt with mental illness throughout her adult life, but she was able to work as a teacher’s aide for Provo School District. The children she worked with loved her and knew she cared about them. Teresa loved animals, ethnic foods and music, watching cooking shows on TV, children’s puppetry, and finding a good bargain. She completely trusted her Father in Heaven and knew he loved her and was taking care of her. She had a compassionate heart for those who were struggling and gave generously what she had.

Mike and Teresa are survived by their brother Gary (Bonnie) Leavitt, and by their younger sisters Beckie Pouch and Jan (Lyle) Hadlock. They are also survived by 8 nieces and nephews Jennifer, Nathan, Justin, and Leah, Jesse and Jessica, and Kelsie and Jonah. They were preceded in death by our parents David and Beverly Leavitt and by their nephew Benjamin.

Double viewing will be at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem, Utah, Wednesday, December 7, 2022 from 10-11 am. Graveside services will follow at Orem City Cemetery.

We want to thank all those caregivers who served Teresa and Mike, but especially our hospice nurse Christine Hayes with Suncrest Hospice.
