Lynn Reed Knudsen
1927 – 2022
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away Dec. 24, 2022 in Goodyear, AZ. Lynn was born Feb. 2, 1927 in Provo, UT to Reed J and Ellen Richardson Knudsen, the youngest of five children.
He attended Provo City Schools where he was active in sports, football, track, and student government. Following high school graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Coastguard during World War II and served aboard a troop transport in the Atlantic and Pacific. He was lucky enough to experience V J Day in Time Square, celebrating the end of the war.
Lynn returned to Provo and attended BYU and later transferred to University of Denver where he graduated with a BA in Business Administration. He began his career in the oil and gas industry in the Los Angeles area with Richfield Oil as a sales rep. Later he returned to Utah and worked with Phillips Oil as a district Salesman covering Idaho and Utah. After a few years, he left that position to take a jobbership with Phillips and established Knudsen Oil and Propane. He served as President of the Utah L. P. Gas Association and remained active in the gasoline and oil business.
In Aug. 1952 he married Colleen Mower while residing in Provo, UT. They were married for 46 years prior to Colleen’s death. They had three children, Brent, Kim, and Kristin.
Lynn sold his business and retired in 1989. He was an active member of Riverside Country Club and enjoyed playing golf and being with many friends. In 1999 he married Carol Douglas of Orem. In 2003, what started out to be a respite from Utah winters soon became their second home residing in PebbleCreek, Goodyear, AZ, where they forged many new and lasting friendships. Lynn continued his travels throughout his retirement years, visiting six of the seven continents and in later years concentrating on what he had missed in our great country.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Colleen; their precious daughter, Kristin; his parents, siblings: brother, Ronald Knudsen; and sisters, Leola Clarke, Donna Knudsen, and Naomi Ashworth.
