Dixie Mitchell

Dixie Howard Mitchell, 86, passed away February 2, 2022, in American Fork, Utah. She was born March 12, 1935, in Provo, Utah to Mat Maurice and Alyth Bigler Howard.

Dixie graduated from Juab High School and Utah State University. She married Richard Mitchell on September 1, 1956, in Nephi, Utah.

Dixie taught 38 years in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades in the Washington and Jordan School Districts. While teaching, she was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, a national sorority for outstanding women educators. After retiring, she loved helping with the family business, spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren, and attending Utah Jazz games.

Dixie is survived by one son, Reid (Laurel) Mitchell; one daughter, Ann Mitchell; six grandchildren: Chris (Kim) Mitchell, Camille (Mark) Thomas, Ashley (Jon) Kelly, McKay (Lori) Mitchell, Heidi (Michael) Schmutz, and Katie (CJ) Wilcox. She is also survived by 19 great grandchildren, her sister, Pat Snell, and brother, Bruce Howard. Preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother George Howard, and sister, Ruby Jean Howard.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 8, 11:00 a.m., at the American Fork 38th Ward, 270 North 900 East. A viewing will be held Monday, February 7, 6:00­ 8:00 p.m. at Anderson and Sons American Fork, 49 East 100 North and Tuesday, February 8, 9:45- 10:45 a.m. at the church, prior to the service. Burial will be in the Lehi Cemetery.
