Patti Michelle Smart

Feb 11, 2022

January 23, 1960 — February 9, 2022

Patti was born to LeRoy and Marilyn Permann in Pocatello, Idaho. As a child, she loved sports: skiing with her dad, playing football with the boys, and golfing with her grandmother. Patti was the drum major at Twin Falls High School, and helped share her love of music with her children. Patti attended college at BYU Idaho. After college, she worked for Congressman Howard C. Nielson. It was during this time that Patti and Ron met.

Ron Smart fell in love with Patti and they had a beautiful marriage. Ron loved to take Patti flying over Utah Valley in his plane. Together, they were dedicated parents to Jason, Michelle, and McKenna. Patti was an exceptional mother. She volunteered at her children’s school by teaching enrichment skills and was supportive of their numerous music, dance and sports activities. Patti loved to cook and was known for her Chinese cuisine. She joyfully served as a service missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the Courtyard at Jamestown Assisted Living Center for over seven years. There, she dedicated herself to one-on-one service with the patrons. Patti was passionate about spoiling her seven grandsons, and loved to have fun despite decades of struggling with multiple sclerosis. Patti loved people, was always making friends, and would talk to anyone.

Patti was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Ron Smart; her children, Jason Smart, Michelle Vines, and McKenna Boula; her siblings, Brenda Wesson and Clark Permann; and her grandchildren, Brayden Smart, Austin Smart, Jackson Vines, Harvey Vines, Cooper Smart, Daniel Smart, and Callahan Vines.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 19th at the Nelson Family Mortuary 4780 N University Ave, Provo, UT 84604. The viewing is at 9am and the funeral is at 10am.
