Michael Lucas Smertick

Jan 1, 2022

St. George, Utah Michael Lucas Smertick left his broken body behind and passed away in the arms of his loving wife and surrounded by his family the evening of December 25, 2021, at their home in St. George.

Mike will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, and most loyal friend. Your humor will forever be remembered, Mike.

Mike was a true Michigander born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. In his 79 years of life, he would join the Navy at the age of 18, the Air Force at the age of 22 and would later retire after 20 years of loyal service to his country.

During his years of service, he met and married his soulmate Saundra C. Shipp of Springville, Utah. He brought two incredible daughters into this world and would show them the world before settling down in Utah in September of 1980.

Mike would later retire in St. George, Utah where he spent the years golfing, shooting, fishing, and four-wheeling all while enjoying a good game of bingo and a trip to Vegas any chance he got.

Mike, we want you to know how much we love you and how proud of you we are.

He is survived by his soulmate, Sandy; two daughters: Tracy and Teri (Pat); five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his loving sister, Mary Ann “Candy” Smertick; and many other loving family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Until we meet again, rest in peace.
