Virginia Thomas Grant

Jan 11, 2022

Virginia Thomas Grant passed away at her home on January 7, 2022, after a lengthy illness. Her husband and children proved to be dedicated caregivers the last 16 months and their diligence allowed her to be cared for at home. Virginia was born on Oct. 18th, 1941 as the first child to Gladys (Dixie) Young Thomas and Clyde Thomas in Spanish Fork, Utah.

She grew up in Spanish Fork and married her high school sweetheart, MJ Grant on Nov. 11, 1960. They were later sealed in the St. George Temple on April 27, 1963. She and MJ were blessed with 5 wonderful children, Matthew Clyde, Mark Wayne, Melanie, Joseph Thomas, and Mary Catherine (Katie) Grant. Her children and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren filled her life with joy and pleasure. She was a dedicated grandmother and great grandmother supporting every child’s school, church, or sporting event. She was always there to support and cheer on each one. They enjoyed a close-knit family and enjoyed getting together. Her home became their gathering place where they gathered around her table often for dinner, birthday celebrations, and holidays.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was always central to Virginia’s life. She served as Relief Society president three different times. Virginia and MJ served two missions for their church. The first to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 2001-2002 and then to Brisbane, Australia in 2005-2006. Both were considered great adventures.

Virginia loved Halloween and every October her home became a Halloween boutique filled with cackling witches and steaming cauldrons. She also loved to host a witches tea party with the neighbors. At Christmas, she displayed over 100 beautiful nativities that she had collected from around the world. She knew where each nativity came from and each had a special place in her home. Virginia and MJ loved to travel. She also loved people and the LA Dodgers. She had an uncanny ability to remember everyone’s birthday. She had an appreciation for family history and the stories associated with her ancestors. She was a gifted seamstress and enjoyed making quilts for her children and grandchildren. Many of them featured cross-stitched quilt blocks. Her hands were never idle, she crocheted and sewed and always had a project in her lap. Many friends and family benefited from her skill and her generosity

Virginia and MJ were blessed with 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren and are expecting 3 more this year.

Virginia is survived by her husband MJ Grant of Lehi, Utah, children Matthew (Gabi) Grant of Brea, California, Mark (Melissa) Grant of Cedar Hills, Ut., Melanie (Travis) Grace, Joseph (Kallie) Grant, and Mary Catherine (Chad) Beck, all of Lehi, Utah. She is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Dixie Thomas and parents-in-law, Wayne and Edith Grant.
