Jan 21, 2022

Elaine Carlton Haddock Rowley of Provo, Utah, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2022, in Bountiful, Davis County, Utah, after several years of suffering congestive heart failure, reduced pulmonary function and painful back injuries.

Elaine was born July 18, 1935 in Boise, Idaho, to Neil Herbert Carlton and Mary Belle Black. She is preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, Ian Grove Haddock and Ralph Alcorn Rowley; her youngest son, Quinn Jay Haddock (Tandra); step-daughter Lorraine Rowley Nielsen (Kelvin); granddaughter Michelle Haddock; and her brother-in-law Milt Moon. She is survived by sisters, Karen Carlton Moon (Milt) and Linda Carlton Theiss, and her brother Ray Carlton (Marcene); sons Rex Haddock (Carol Ann), Reed Haddock (Sandra), Kevan Haddock (Beth) and Keith Haddock; daughter-in-law Tandra Ross Haddock; step-children Kurt Rowley (Paula), Christine Rowley Carbine (Adriane), Janiel Rowley Miller, and Lynn Rowley Anderson (Mark); and many grand- and great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Her family was her greatest joy and she was happy and generous in blessing their lives.

Elaine really enjoyed the beauty and fresh air of Lake Tahoe and surrounding areas where she and Ian owned a cabin. She hiked the trails, swam in the cold, clear waters of the lake and learned to water-ski. She was thrilled to be with her husband and sons in the mountains! Welcoming family and friends to the cabin was a major delight! After moving to Provo, Utah and selling the cabin, she would organize annual family reunions at Bear Lake.

Elaine graduated from Boise High School and attended Brigham Young University, completing two years of a four-year degree prior to bearing and rearing her sons. She returned to BYU and completed her degree in child education after the death of her husband, Ian.

Elaine was an accomplished pianist and organist. She played in recitals, dance studios, auditoriums and concert halls. One of her memorable experiences was playing the organ for the musical numbers performed in the Marriott Center for a regional single-adult devotional fireside. During her life she accompanied choirs, soloists (vocal and instrumental) and many singing groups. Eliane was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved accompanying the congregation in singing praises to the God she loved and worshiped. In addition to many accompanist callings, Elaine served her local congregations in many other ways teaching the youth in Primary and Sunday School, and teaching in Young Women’s and early-morning Seminary. She also served the adult women of the church in the Relief Society.

Elaine was a serious student of the gospel of Jesus Christ and devoted disciple following Him. Her faith in Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ guided her life and she is now in Their care.
