Cameron Skinner White
1980 – 2022
Cameron Skinner White born October 10th 1980 passed away unexpectedly on January 27th 2022. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer, two children, Cameron and Henry, his father, John, his mother Georgia, and his two siblings, Lauren and John.
Cameron spent most of his life in Reno, but lived some years in Utah. He attended college at Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah where he majored in philosophy. His professors took great pride in mentoring someone with such a unique mind. His sister, who had the honor of being his classmate for several of such classes, can attest he was the top in the class, the person everyone tried to outshine! His love of philosophy was present throughout his whole life, even pushing his father to read Nietzsche this past year. Cameron’s gift of computer programming and chess further attest to his ability to work comfortably in complex environments.
He came of age as the computer was revolutionizing our lives and either created or improved several programs now commonly used by businesses. He was fond of the Linux operating system, thought it superior to other operating systems, and did his best to promote its use. He will perhaps be most remembered for his many contributions to that operating system during it early days. He was President of PVRVP and used his influence to help promote decent living conditions at reasonable prices for those who preferred living in RV parks. He generously allowed the Reno Host Leos to meet in his office at the park for many years.
Cameron met his beautiful wife in 2006, working as web developers for Swift Newspapers, and were married for 10 years at the time of his death. They had their first son, Cammy, in 2012 and second son, Henry, in 2014. The birth of these two wonderful boys filled the family with such joy and provided the family with a beautiful new bond. Cameron was bright with a remarkable wit and loved his family deeply. He loved sports, with soccer being among his favorite to watch and play. His love of soccer, especially the World Cup, was infectious amongst his family. He showed all around him that humor could heal and help us through the darkest of times.
Service will be held Friday afternoon, February 4, at Walton’s Sierra Chapel 875 W. Second Street Reno, NV 89503 p: (775) 323-7189. Cameron was the volunteer advisor for the Reno Cigar Lions Computers for Kids. Donations to this organization may be made to C/o Donald Cortez, Treasurer, 1555 Sky Valley Dr., Apt Z201, Reno, NV 89523
