Mary Louise Newman

1929 — 2022

On Saturday July 9, 2022, Mary Louise Newman, loving wife and mother of four children, passed away at the age of 92, surrounded by her family.

Mary Lou was born on November 21,1929 in Chicago,IL to Arthur and Mabel Winiger.

She was a beautiful and fun young woman who met Robert Chester Newman on a blind date and later married him on June 5, 1948. They raised four children, Nancy, Steve, Carol and Diana.

Mary Lou was a woman full of faith. As a young girl she attended the Baptist church where she learned about Jesus and loved Him. She also loved flowers, barefoot walks along the beach of Lake Michigan and being a mother. There was always a feeling of fun and laughter in her home.

A new and wonderful era happened when Mary Lou opened her door to the missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and she and Bob accepted the gospel and were baptized Jan. 3, 1959. They were then sealed as an eternal family in the Salt Lake Temple, August 18, 1960. They devoted much of their lives to the church serving in leadership roles and growing the church in Wisconsin and Michigan. Later they moved west to join their married children and serve in the Jordan River and Mount Timpanogos Temples.

Mary Louise was preceded in death by her husband Bob in 2002 and son-in-law Tony Olson. She is survived by her children Nancy Olson, Steve (Patrice) Newman, Carol (David) Pitcher and Diana (Richard) Farr, 18 grandchildren, and 38 great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Saturday July 16, 2022 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Orem Sunset Heights 4th Ward, 500 South 600 West, Orem Utah. Viewing at 10:00-10:45 am and service at 11am.
