October 1, 1931 — July 7, 2022

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Dewey Brundage. Dewey passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family, July 7, 2022, in Orem, Utah at the age of 90.

Dewey is survived by his 4 children and their Spouses, Thomas Alan, and Kami Fairbourne Brundage, Timothy Clark Brundage, Tod Dewey, and Heide Hoeffgen Brundage, Katherine Lavon and David L. Johnson. He had 21 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.

Dewey was born in Alhambra, CA on Oct 1, 1931, to Frank Lang Brundage and Georgia Evelyn Thon Brundage. He was the youngest of 4 children

Dewey graduated from El Monte High School in 1950 where he excelled in sports. After HS he attended and played football at Pasadena City College. After his freshman year, he transferred to Brigham Young University where he continued playing football earning three Varsity letters.

While at BYU, Dewey met his future wife of 67 Years, Katherine “Kay” L. Clark. Dewey always maintained that it was love at first sight. As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kay and Dewey were married and sealed for “Time and All Eternity” in the St. George Temple on December 19, 1953.

In 1953 Dewey was drafted by the Detroit Lions of the National Football League. During the pre-season he was traded to the Pittsburg Steelers where he would finish the season and forever be a “Steeler” at heart. Dewey was drafted into Army where he served two years and played football in the Armed Forces League. He was Honorably Discharged from Military Service in 1956.

Dewey and Kay settled in Southern California where they raised their family. Dewey worked for United Parcel Service and then Barker Brothers Furniture. After 18 years Dewey returned to college and received a bachelor’s degree. He began his career at Mark Keppel HS, in Southern California, coaching football and in 1980 moved his family to Utah where he accepted the Head Coaching job at Manti High. With one last move to Orem Utah, he ended his career at Mountain View HS doing what he loved, Coaching Football and Teaching.

Dewey’s love of family and sports was deeply intrenched in his home. Known as “Coach” to all, he supported his children, and grandchildren in their various sports and activities, and careers, ranging from Military Service to Missionary Service to Sporting Events, Dewey and Kay would often travel long distances to watch and support their endeavors.

Loyal fans of BYU, Dewey and Kay could often be seen Cheering on the Football Team at LaVell Edwards Stadium, and both Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Teams in the Old Fieldhouse. As Proud Members of the Cougar Club Kay and Dewey will always be “True Blue.”

Dewey and Kay welcomed and opened their home to all, from family to their children’s friends, to grandchildren, foster children, and exchange students… all were all treated as their own.

Dewey, Buck, Dad, Grandpa, Coach, Wimpy, you will be dearly missed and forever a part of each of us. It is through Heavenly Fathers Love, and the Atonement of Jesus Christ, that our hearts will heal, and we will be together again.

The Family asks that you join them in a celebration of his life on July 30, at 10:00 am, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel. Located at 114 S. 400 W. Orem, Utah.
