Carolyn June Thomson Crabb

Jun 3, 2022

Carolyn June Thomson Crabb, loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully in Orem on June 2, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 9, 1931, in her family home in Ephraim Utah – the last of seven children born to Anthony Wells Thomson and Clara Bohman.

She grew up in Ephraim and attended the public schools, then studied two years at Snow College in Ephraim, which was right across the street from her home. After graduating from Snow, she transferred to Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 1953. She began her teaching career at Timpanogos Elementary School in the Provo School District.

Carolyn loved to dance, and while attending a dance in Provo, she met Lee Crabb, a dashing young man who had just returned from Korea after serving in the Army. She often recalled how handsome he looked in his military uniform. A few months later they were married — on August 19, 1955, at Carolyn’s home in Ephraim. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple, and they ultimately celebrated 64 happy years together. They made their home in Orem, Utah, where they raised four wonderful children. Carolyn suspended her career to care for her family, then later returned to teaching, working for Alpine School District at Windsor Elementary school in Orem, where she taught fourth grade for many years. After retiring, she used her skills to help adults who couldn’t read, volunteering at the Family Literacy Center. She did this for several years and found much enjoyment in her work there.

Carolyn was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed serving with the Scouts and as a counselor and organist in the Primary. In the Relief Society she was called to work with the Literacy (reading) and Humanitarian programs. With her husband Lee, she served a Service Mission at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City as a host for two years.

Her family was very dear to her. She loved to host family gatherings for birthdays and holidays, working very hard to foster and maintain family relationships. Extended family were always included, and the parties usually ended with games for all to enjoy. Her camera was always ready to snap photos at family events, and she enjoyed creating scrapbooks filled with these memories. Her strong family ties went both ways, and genealogy was very important to her. She wrote several family histories and invented games and displayed family trees to help her children and grandchildren know their ancestors. On one wall in her family room, she proudly displayed up-to-date pictures of all of her children’s families, each of her grandchildren, as well as their ancestors, tying them all together as a family.

Carolyn loved to decorate her home so it was attractive and comfortable, and she always had fun decorations for each holiday. Flowers made her very happy, and she enjoyed growing and caring for them in her yard. With her husband Lee, she enjoyed traveling around the US and many other countries around the world; the most important places she visited were the Church historic sites and the Holy Land.

Carolyn was the last surviving child in her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, three siblings who died in infancy, her dear sister, Maurine Thomson Scott, and two brothers: Anthony Clair Thomson and Calvin Wells Thomson.

Her husband, Lee Crabb, passed away in 2015. Carolyn is survived by her four children: Cynthia (Russell) Henningson, Manti, Utah; Thomas (Karen) Crabb, Orem, Utah; Lynn (Cindy) Crabb, Lindon, Utah; and Timothy (Heather) Crabb, Lehi, Utah and 15 grandchildren: Jason, Anthony, Jaiden, and Nevaeh Henningson; Alexi, Haley, Matthew, Sydney, and Quincey Crabb; Alyssa, Rachel and Kaylie Crabb; McKinsey, Davis and Faith Crabb.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 7th at 11:00 am in the Cascade First Ward Chapel located at 481 E. Center Street, Orem, UT. A viewing for family and friends will be held at the Chapel from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. Interment will be in the Lehi City Cemetery.
