Richard Cornelius Harrigan
Richard Cornelius Harrigan passed peacefully Feb. 21, 2022 in Payson, Utah. Richard was born to Elizabeth Hazel and Cornelius Harrigan on August 31, 1926 in Alhambra, CA. Richard enlisted in the US Army Air Corps serving two years (Jan. 1945 – Dec. 1946) through WWII on Okinawa, as assistant crew chief mechanic on the B29. He then returned to So. Cal. and was employed at California Bank in LA. It was there he met “the love of my life,” Winona Lee White. They married May 7, 1949 and raised six children in the San Gabriel Valley area. He owned and operated Inter-Valley Adjustment Company in Pasadena CA from 1968 until he retired in 1986 and moved to Springville, Utah. He and Nona owned Fat Jack’s Pizza in Springville from 1986 to 1998. Richard enjoyed camping, fishing, boating with his family and friends. An avid golfer, Richard donated dozens of trees to Hobble Creek Golf Course over the years. He was a gardener at heart and lovingly maintained his home gardens. He was well read in many genres. He kept abreast of politics and current events. Several of his letters to the editors of the Los Angeles Times, Salt Lake Tribune and Herald were published. With health declining, Richard lived his last 4 1/2 years in Central Utah Valley Veterans Home in Payson, where the nurses, aides and staff who cared for him, “are the cream of the crop!” ~RCH
Richard is survived by his 6 children, Constance Wilson, Mary Alice McQuinn, Richard, James, and Paul Harrigan and Susan Graybill and spouses; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, his father, mother, brothers and sisters and their spouses, 1 nephew, 1 grand nephew, 1 niece, and 1 great-granddaughter.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held on Monday, June 27, 2022, 11 am at:
Evergreen Cemetery, Mausoleum 1997 South 400 East, Springville, Utah.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in Richard’s name to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
