Josephine Platt

Mar 10, 2022

Our loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Josephine Lucile Martin Platt, passed away peacefully, at the age of 89, on the evening of Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Spring Gardens Assisted Living Center in Lindon, Utah.

Josephine was born December 22, 1932 in La Sal, Utah to Gareld Earl Martin and Neva Wilma Murphy Martin. She was raised in Moab and Brown’s Hole, which remained places she loved her entire life. She often spoke of her childhood memories she treasured with her siblings and parents.

Josephine met David Gail Platt in Moab. They were married October 29, 1949. They lived in Utah for the first few years of their marriage where Kathy, David, and Steve were born. Dave got a printing job that moved them to California where they settled to raise their family. Melvin and Brent were born in California to complete their family. After Dave passed away in November 1996, Jo sold the house on Brittain Lane and moved back to Utah.

Jo was extremely dedicated and loyal to her family, who she often proclaimed, “as the best family ever.” She spent her days caring for her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. She sent care packages of homemade caramel, jam thumbprint cookies, peppermint rolls, pie crusts, etc. She made countless quilts and other treasured keepsakes for her family. She loved music and enjoyed playing the violin and accordion.

Josephine could often be found laughing, telling stories from her past, watching old westerns with her grandchildren, cheering them on in their various activities, and making sure she gave everyone who stopped by a treat of some kind. You couldn’t leave her house empty-handed, even if you tried.

Jo was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a genealogy master. She completed lots of family history and even worked on family history for her children’s spouses’ families. Family was everything to her, and she was everything to us. She is so loved and will be missed immensely until we see her again.

Josephine is survived by her loving children: Kathy (Larry) Christensen, David (Marilyn) Platt, Steve (Tami) Platt, Mel (Carol) Platt, Brent (Sherry) Platt; 21 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, a few great-great-grandchildren; sister Cora Mae, and brothers Guy, Tim, Richard, and Tony. Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, David Platt; her parents, Earl and Neva; and brothers: John, Alvin, Mel, Ben, and Tom.

As a family, we are grateful for those who lovingly took care of our mom/granny during her last few months at Spring Gardens Assisted Living Center.
