Born on December 15, 1969, in Lakeside, Arizona, Gene was the son of Albert Wayne Crandell and Toni Mickeen (Evensen) Crandell.

Gene studied small engines and welding in school, both of which he loved along with riding motorcycles and fishing.

Gene had a very pure heart which is the attribute those who knew him remember most. He loved sincerely and helped those in need. He had a soft spot for underdogs and elderly. He loved his mother and took care of her until her health required a nursing home. Family was important to him.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother John, sister Brenda Nelson and Nephew Robbie Nelson. Surviving in addition to his daughter Lashay are his siblings: Wesley, Debi Cox, Randy, Rhonda Argo, Gary, Kevin, Kelly, Steven, and almost 60 nieces and nephews.

A memorial will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at Main St Chapel in Snowflake, Arizona.
