Joseph Dean Brierley

Nov 7, 2022

Joseph Dean Brierley, 69, of Spanish Fork, passed away November 5, 2022 at home after a valiant battle with Parkinson’s Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. He was born March 25, 1953 in American Fork, Utah to James Orson and Maria Kunz Brierley. His early years were spent in Lindon where he started Kindergarten, and later that year the family moved to Salem, where they lived on a farm and Joseph would read to the cows each day on his way home from school.

Around 1961, the family moved to Spanish Fork where he attended elementary school and graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1971. Joseph was a gifted artist and was selected as the Sterling Scholar in Art his senior year. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Army Reserve, serving his country for 6 years. He took a two year leave to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Spain from 1973-75. He graduated from Utah Technical College in 1978 with an Associates degree in Applied Science, and later earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix in 1995.

Joseph married Anne Gee November 21,1975 in the Provo Temple and together they had four beautiful children, Andrea Lynn, Sherry Anne, Bethany Kay and Cameron Alden Brierley. He served faithfully in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints including Gospel Doctrine teacher, Elders Quorum President, Bishopric, Stake Missionary and Stake Mission Presidency, High Councilman over the Spanish Branch, Young Men President, and Sunday School President, among many others.

Joseph owned and operated Mountain Lands Signs in Orem for 16 years, and sold the business and began employment in 1996 with Allstate Insurance and was soon offered the opportunity to operate his own agency in Orem. He later moved on to complete his working years at UTA in Orem in the maintenance department, retiring in 2018.

Joseph dearly loved his family and doted on his children and enjoyed spoiling his precious grandchildren. He loved cars, especially his 1966 GTO, gardening, fishing, hunting and camping and took many trips with family, of which we will forever cherish the memories.
