Wallace Sheryl Peterson (1933-2022)

Wallace (89) of Springville, Utah passed away on Tuesday, October 18th. He was born in Taylor, Idaho on September 12th, 1933. He is the oldest of 5 sons born to Wallace Levi Peterson and Marvel Leial Hess Peterson.

Following his graduation from Shelley High School in 1951 Wallace attended Ricks College where he met his future wife, Kathryn Davidson. Sheryl, as he was known then, chose to serve a mission for the LDS church and was called to serve in Sweden. Upon his return Wallace and Kathryn were married on August 10th, 1956, in the Idaho Falls Temple. Shortly after their marriage Wallace was drafted into the US Army. He did his basic training in Fort Carson, Colorado and he served at Fort Lewis in Washington State and Fort Knox, Kentucky.

After completing his military service, he moved his family to Salt Lake City where he attended the University of Utah studying pharmacy. After graduating in 1963 he moved his family to Springville where he started his career at Rex Drug which later became Art City Pharmacy.

Wallace has been an active member of the Springville 8th Ward for close to 60 years. He served in many positions including being Bishop on two separate occasions.

Wallace and Kathryn served a couple’s mission in the Oklahoma Tulsa Mission from January 2004 ­ August 2005.

He is the father of 9 children, Karen (Wayne) Young of Great Falls, MT, Valerie (Charles) Wilson of Antimony, UT, David Peterson of Springville, UT, Elaine (David) Willis of Loveland, CO, Kevin (Collette) Peterson of South Jordan, UT, Brian (Alice) Peterson of Grand Junction, CO, Marlo (Paul) Evans of Mapleton, UT and Jon (Sheri) Peterson of Spanish Fork, UT. He is the grandfather of 44, great-grandfather of 59 with 1 more on the way and great great-grandfather of 5.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Wallace & Marvel, his 3 brothers Lynn, Jon, and Brent, his wife Kathryn, his son Steven, and daughter in law Mary wife of David.

We will remember Wallace for the fruits of his labors, the produce from his garden, the potatoes from Idaho, fruit and nut baskets around the holidays, and his charitable contributions to the Church and especially towards missionary work.

A viewing for family and friends will be held Thursday, October 20, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South in Springville. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 21, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the church at 355 East Center Street in Springville with a viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the services.
