Harold Clayton Anderson (Harry)

Harold Clayton Anderson (Harry) passed away October 21st at his home in Orem, Utah at the age of 87. He was born to Varian and Ada Mae Anderson July 18, 1935 in Murray, Utah.

Harry grew up in Wendover and Grantsville, Utah with his five siblings. He played and excelled in all sports at Grantsville High School. He then attended Brigham Young University, where he played basketball and ran track. Upon graduation with a BS in Education, he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Saints in the British Mission (1957-1959).

He married Judy Ann Rasmussen in the Salt Lake Temple on August 11, 1961. They have three children — Tammy Robins (Kipp), Mathew Anderson (Jenny), and Ryan Anderson (Jena). They have 25 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.

Harry taught health and driver’s ed at Orem High School and was the head basketball coach. He loved working with young men and led his team to two state finals.

Harry was hired as assistant coach to Frank Arnold and the BYU men’s basketball team. His time coaching at BYU was very memorable and the team had great success during that time, reaching the Elite Eight in 1981.

Harry served in many callings in the church, including bishop and stake presidency counselor. He particularly loved serving in the MTC as branch president, as missionary work was Harry’s first love.

He served a mission with Judy to Spokane, Washington.

Their service extended from Moscow, Idaho to Pullman, Washington. They loved teaching college students in the Institutes of Washington State University and the University of Idaho. They also served a mission on Temple Square in Salt Lake. Harry loved to meet and introduce people to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

A viewing will be held at Walker Sanderson funeral home located at 646 East 800 North in Orem on Friday, October 28th from 6:00-8:00 pm. A viewing will be held Saturday morning, October 29th at the LDS stake center at 195 West 300 South in Orem from 9:30-10:45 prior to the funeral that will begin at 11:00 am.
