Jay Merton Simpson

Jay Merton Simpson, 89, passed away peacefully Friday, September 9, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.
Jay was born the youngest of eight children to Clarence Eugene and Rachel Mary Baxter Simpson on October 11,1932 in Silver City, Utah. He was raised in Lynndyl, Utah and educated in Delta, Utah.
After graduating high school, from 1950 to 1952, he worked for Union Pacific Railroad. He was then drafted into the Army (1950 1954) and served in the Korean war.
He returned home after his military service and married Vivian Fae Jackson on December 13, 1955, and they were sealed August 21,1964, in the Salt Lake Temple. They made their home in Provo and raised five wonderful children.
Jay first worked for the Provo Pressed Brickyard. In 1961, he went to work for Provo City. He retired as an electrical engineer with the city after 30 years.
Upon his retirement, Jay purchased 40 acres of land in West Mountain, Utah and built a home. Hard work, dedication, and pride was always his desire and goal to make his home and farm productive and beautiful.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings that included Elders Quorum President and a High Priest leader. Jay and Vivian both served as Stake Missionaries.
He is survived by his children: Mark (Sheila) Simpson, Jill (Danny) Mitchell, Kevin (Tiffany) Simpson, and daughters in law, Terri and Sandra Simpson. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents; seven siblings; beautiful wife, Vivian; and sons, Michael Jay and John Earl Simpson.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 16, 2022, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 902 West 400 North, Payson, Utah. Visitation will be held prior from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Military honors and interment will be in Lehi City Cemetery, 1525 North 600 East, Lehi, Utah.
