Karan Hulet Clawson

Sep 13, 2022

Karan Hulet Clawson, 75, of Orem, UT, has been reunited with her Heavenly Father Sunday, September 11, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer. Karan was born May 2, 1947, to John and Jean Hulet in Provo. She grew up in Toppenish, Washington, enjoying the outdoors, music, playing the piano, cheerleading, and growing up with her two sisters and brother.

She left her home in Washington to attend college at Brigham Young University, where she met and married the love of her life, Steven Reese Clawson for all eternity in the Manti Temple on August 12, 1969. They created a loving home in Provo where they had five children: Jeffrey, Jennifer, Julianne, Jason, and Jeremy. They later moved to the home they spent the next 46 years in and had two more sons: Joshua, and James. Karan’s life pursuits revolved around the needs of her children and husband for they truly were her life.

Karan had many talents she developed throughout her life. She was an expert seamstress. Whether it was sewing on buttons for the immeasurable shirts that were lost for her family, sewing the many dresses her daughters needed for high school dances, or to countless Halloween costumes that were always seemingly needed “the next day,” she always completed these tasks cheerfully and with a smile. Karan also loved to play the piano for her family and for church. Later she spent decades serving as her ward organist. She was also a talented and gifted teacher where she taught 1st grade for 22 years at Suncrest Elementary in Orem, Utah, where she met countless dear friends. She was loved and will always be remembered by her students and her colleagues for her patience, kindness, and love that she shared with everyone. Her skills in the kitchen and years of cooking for many people over the years, is yet another talent that came easy for her. Making sugar cookies for every holiday was something that all her children and grandchildren looked forward to. Whether it was sweet or savory, there was not much Karan would cook that would end up as leftovers.

Karan was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and her unwavering faith and love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was always a beacon in her life. She received joy throughout her life in the service of her fellowman and served in many capacities in the church with the love of Christ for all.

Karan was preceded in death by her parents: John and Jean Hulet, in-laws Herbert and Rosa Clawson, brother-in-law Bill Ostensen, sister-in-law Marilyn (Chub) Curtis, daughter-in-law Valerie Clawson, and her grandsons Hayden Hawkins and Hulet Clawson.
