Hildred Anderson
September 8, 1935 — March 31, 2023
Orem — Hildred Nielsen Anderson, of Orem, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2023, at age 87. Hildred was the oldest of five children born to Joy Woodruff Nielsen and Bertha Olsen Nielsen. She was especially close to her sister, DeAnn. They enjoyed many activities together and valued spending time together. She enjoyed her childhood in Provo and always had many friends.
She met and married Lewis “Bud” Anderson, the love of her life, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had 4 children. She is thrilled to be reunited with Bud after many years apart.
She served faithfully in various capacities as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with vigor and enthusiasm with complete devotion to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Hildred worked as a secretary for Geneva Steel and several elementary schools in the Alpine School District.
She was a voracious reader and loved to learn. In her retirement, she attended classes in Art History and Architecture at Utah Valley University. This love of history and culture inspired her to take many trips to Europe, and these trips often included her children.
Hildred loved hosting parties and family gatherings. She loved to get her family together for any reason. She was masterful at all games, especially word games. She had an incredible vocabulary.
One of Hildreds attributes was unconditional love shown by selfless service to her family, friends, and people she hardly knew without expecting anything in return. Some of her acts of service included making Christmas trees for missionaries, sewing infant burial clothing, donating payment for dental work, ironing, baking and delivering cookies by the hundreds, ushering at various theaters, making and delivering fudge to the Orem City Library at Christmas, and so on.
The family would like to express their love and appreciation to Hildreds friends who have shown many years of love and devotion to her. We also wish to thank the many caregivers who have served Hildred these past several months.
Hildred was preceded in death by her husband and parents. She is survived by her sister and three brothers: DeAnn Nielsen, Nephi Brent (Pam) Nielsen, Alber Wayne (Charla) Nielsen, and Gregory Joy (Linda) Nielsen.
She is survived by her 4 children, Rebecca (Dwayne) Sudweeks, Kathryn (Mark) Romney, Jean (Arthur) Newell, and David (Tarra) Anderson.
She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 8th at 11 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 114 South, 400 West, Orem Utah 84058. In lieu of a viewing, there will be a Family and Friends Reception prior to the service from 9:30-10:45 am.
