Lynn McClurg
April 29, 1932 — April 11, 2023
Provo — Lynn Earl McClurg transitioned peacefully to a heavenly realm on April 11, 2023. Up to just days before his transition if you asked him: How are you? He would say “Amazingly Well!” Lynn was born April 29, 1932, in Preston, Idaho. He spent most of his young years in Smithfield, UT. Lynn met his sweetheart, Janis, in high school in Blackfoot Idaho. They were married for time and all Eternity on September 1, 1954, in the Salt Lake Temple. Lynn and Janis have five children; Robert (deceased), John (Jennifer), James (Jace), Ladd, and the only girl Wyn (Brad). Lynn and Janis have 9 grandchildren and added four more grandchildren when Brad became another son. They have always been so generous in extending their love to so many, including 21 great-grandchildren. They were married for nearly 64 years before Janis transitioned from this earthly sphere after many years of Lynn’s amazing care. Lynn found loving companionship with Jeanine, and they married on Nov. 2, 2018. She expanded his world with her six children; Heidi (Blaine), Melanie (Patrick), John (Kathie), Diane (Brian), Jeanine (Scot), Bent (Joy), and more grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lynn enlisted in the Air Force fresh out of high school. Finishing Officer Candidate School, Lynn and Janis began their family while stationed in Japan, just the beginning of their travel around the world raising a family of five in the military. They made many lifelong friendships along the way. Life for Lynn and his family took a change after 20 years, when Lynn’s flying days ended in 1972 that resulted in his early retirement from the Air Force having obtained the rank of Lt. Col. This led to his new adventure at Brigham Young University settling his family in Provo, UT. He served in many positions in the twenty-five years at BYU, which included Dean of the Math & Science College and Associate Vice President and Professor. During that time, he completed his doctorate degree. In the years following his retirement from the University, his principal duties were those of a butler and caregiver to his love Janis. Opting for a more temperate climate, the next twelve years were spent in Newport Beach, where Lynn was well suited to carrying on his butler duties and becoming a yogi at age 69, developing a practice that extended over twenty years of his life into his nineties. Throughout Lynn’s life, he served faithfully in various positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Branch President, Temple Worker, Missionary, and with the youth. Lynn was a temple worker for 40 years serving in the LA, Newport Beach, and Provo Temples. Lynn was a great storyteller and an even better giver of wise advice. His grandchildren remember him meeting with them often to discuss their lives. They truly knew their grandfather and grandmother loved them, as do the extended family, the many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Special thanks to Melanie Boyer, Jeanine’s daughter, who cared for Lynn and Jeanine before, through, and after his passing. Lynn gave her the title of assisted living manager, but she served in a broader sense with exemplary love and compassion. We, his four living children, his wife Jeanine, and Melanie were fortunate to be present as our dad transitioned in his beautiful and peaceful home. “He not only knew how to make this mortal space bearable; he knew all the secrets to make it beautiful.” -Syl Carson, Bodhi Yoga Memorial Service will be held at Nelson Family Mortuary April 29, 2023 at 11:00am.
