Jay Poulson Mansfield

Apr 24, 2023

Jay Poulson Mansfield passed away peacefully at home on April 20, 2023. He was born December 23, 1936, to Rulon Matthew and Ilene Poulson Mansfield. Jay lived in Orem from age 6 and attended Spencer School and Lincoln High. He graduated in 1955.

He married his high school sweetheart, Norma Ann Laursen in 1955. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1957 and were married for 68 years. Together, Jay and Norma raised 6 daughters in Orem.

Jay was a hardworking man, working for Western Airlines, Hercules, and his Texaco Service Station, before starting his own Rootmaster Sewer and Drain Cleaning business. He loved his fleet of antique coral sewer wagons. He was a handy man and could build or repair almost anything. With the Mansfield Family, he built Tee Time Miniature Golf Course in Orem.

He loved the outdoors! Fishing was his hobby. He built his 40 ft. houseboat and loved spending time on it at Lake Powell with family and friends. Jay and Norma served a mission to Martin’s Cove. He loved to serve others with callings as Bishop, High Council, Elder’s Quorum, and as a teacher of youth. His greatest treasures were his testimony of the Savior, Joseph Smith, and his wonderful family. He was a stalwart priesthood holder and was always willing to minister to others.

Jay is survived by his wife Norma and their children; Jan (Gordon) Wells, Kris (Quinn) Gillman, Peggy (Conrad) Todd, Shelly (Maurice) West, Sandee (Michael) Bodily, and Merilee (Lane) Herrick; sister, Karen Belliston; brother-in-law, Robert Thatcher; sister-in-law, Marilyn Mansfield; 28 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Rulon and Ilene Mansfield; brother, Ronald Mansfield, sister, Darlene Thatcher, and 2 grandsons and 3 great-grandsons.

The family would like to give a special thanks to A-Plus Hospice services, especially Jason, Heidi, and Sheila.
