Aselika Takuvaka Lolohea
On July 31, 2023, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend ‘Aselika Takuvaka Lolohea passed away at the age of 72 at her home in Orem, Utah.
‘Aselika was born in Haakame, Tongatapu, Tonga, on November 18, 1950, to Sione Vaioleti Takuvaka and Ana Tu’ipulotu. She was number 10 of 11 children. She grew up on the land that her father’s family owned called Lepanoi and Fehi on the island of Tongatapu with her brothers and sisters. ‘Aselika was only 11 months old when her father passed away on October 13, 1951. She attended Liahona High School, a high school in Tonga owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Our Liahona Lady graduated in 1970 and she enjoyed attending her class reunions and kept in close contact with her classmates.
‘Aselika served a full-time mission in Tonga. She arrived in America in 1976 and was married and sealed to Siale Tali’ehe Lolohea on March 18, 1978, in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
‘Aselika worked for many years for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She worked at the Missionary Training Center and loved the Polynesian missionaries. She would often make them Tongan food and bring it in for them to eat. She also worked at the Cannon Center and retired from Brigham Young University in January 2016. After retiring, ‘Aselika wanted to keep busy so she started working for Aspen Senior Care where she cared for elderly people and was a great friend to these individuals. She made lasting friendships with her clients because she loved them. This type of work suited her servant heart.
She went on another full-time mission to the Polynesian Cultural Center and served in the Tonga village in La’ie, Hawai’i. Her main job there was to demonstrate making the Tongan tapa cloth. She was so happy that she used to help her mom prepare the tutu and feta’ake to make the tapa cloth as she was growing up along with her sisters Finau, ‘Ofa, Siale, and Etina. She pulled on this experience and was often reminded of the happy life she had helping her mom. She cherished her time serving in “Aloha Land.”
She had a kind heart and served and ministered to many members in her ward and she was a relief to many friends, ward members, and family. She loved serving whether on the mission or with members of her ward. She was always the first to greet newcomers in any setting and would be quick to say, “You are my Ohana!!”
‘Aselika was good at every hobby she tried. She loved to sing, play her ukulele, crochet, and play pickleball. Her latest hobby was making haku and leis. She loved gardening and can rehab any dying plant or flowers. She loved arranging flowers and taking them to her loved ones who passed.
Preceded in death by her husband, Siale Tali’ehe Lolohea; mother, ‘Ana Tu’ipulotu; father, Sione Vaioleti Takuvaka; sisters, ‘Ana Faka’ata, Suliana, Finau Heuifanga, Sisifa, Sialetafa, Losiana; brothers, Sione Toilolo and Penisimani Takuvaka. ‘Aselika is survived by her daughters, Pelenaise Moala Valikoula (Filisione) Takapu, Emily Josephine (Moakava) Uasila’a, Hefolau Lotononga Lavaka, Katalina Taufa Kaufusi, Lipina Vaihahau Lolohea, and ‘Uluakimata Suliana Lolohea; sons, Viliami Po’uli (Ileini) Kolomalu, Siosifa Tali’ehe Lolohea; grandchildren, Mary (Sinisa), Sam (Patricia), Emali, Sione (Deon), Juliete, Amelianau (Zephaniah), Usaia (Aveana), Viliami (Brooke), Lakei (Brinley), Sione, Kevin, Susi, Siosifa, Mosese, Tevita, Lusi, Tina, Adney Siosifa, Siale Tali’ehe, ‘Iunisi Anamanu, and Angelica Lipina Suliana Uasila’a; sisters, ‘Ofa Kilotolua and ‘Ofa Etina.
Bishops Program will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at the Orem 8th ward chapel, 150 East 600 North, Orem. A family viewing will be held from 8:00-10:00 a.m. at the church. A public viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. noon at the church prior to the Bishops Program. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
