Connie Blakemore Cook

Dec 7, 2023

Connie Blakemore Cook, 85, of Provo, Utah, passed away December 3, 2023. She was born May 13, 1938, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Roy Elmo Blakemore and Wilma Heiner Blakemore. She married Paul Franklin Cook on September 27, 2002, in the Provo, Utah LDS temple.

Connie received her Ed.D. from Temple University and worked many years at Brigham Young University as a health and human performance professor. She enjoyed a close relationship with her younger sister Nickole, Tom, her nieces, and nephew. She traveled enthusiastically with them throughout Europe, Australia, India, Nepal, Africa, and across the US from coast to coast. She was the “fun aunt” that everyone loved to visit. After marrying later in life, Connie still maintained and nurtured these cherished relationships to the very end. When she married Paul, she instantly became a mother and grandmother, creating new, treasured relationships. She brought that family so much love and fun. Connie enjoyed reading, golfing, lemon pie, the Utah Jazz, BYU sports, sports in general, and dogs, especially her dog Mitt. She served in many Church positions, including Relief Society President and early morning seminary teacher. She served missions in Kenya, Zimbabwe, and Israel, and she also provided service in China through the BYU Kennedy Center.

Connie is survived by her husband Paul F. Cook, her sons Randall (Janette) Cook of Washington, Utah, John (Karen) Cook of American Fork, Utah, Greg (Julie) Cook of Pleasant Grove, Utah, and Joe (Melissa) Cook of St. George, Utah; her sister Nicki (Tom) Backman of St. George, Utah; 17 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren; nieces Jenny Woods (Dave) of Nevada, Emily Kroening (Jeff) of Wisconsin, Gretel Patch (Chris) of Saudi Arabia, and nephew Noah Backman of Wisconsin; and 11 grand nieces and nephews.
