Joye Kirk

August 5, 1931 — December 13, 2023

Provo – Joye Arlene Hullinger Kirk, age 92, passed away in her sleep on December 13, 2023 at home following years of health struggles. Joye was born on August 5, 1931 to Charles and Arda Hullinger in Montwell, Utah.

Joye was preceded in death by her husband Richard, parents, infant brother Duane, brother Arden (MaryAnn) Hullinger, sister Alda (Leslie) Jensen, and brother Arvin Jay (Luana) Hullinger. She is survived by her son Lee (April) Kirk, grandchildren Shalauna, Jaron, and Emilee, brother Ben (Carol) Hullinger and sister Carlie (Boyce) Williams.

Joye was born in Montwell Utah and spent her early years in the Uintah Basin. Her family then moved to Pleasant Grove. She worked at the Barbazon of Utah sewing factory in Provo while attending the Central Utah Vocational School – the predecessor of UVU. She then worked at the Bank of Pleasant Grove as a bookkeeper. She married Richard Kirk on February 28, 1957 in the Salt Lake Temple. Eventually their son Lee joined them.

She enjoyed camping with both her immediate and extended family. Along with her husband, she grew a garden every year and would cook, bottle, freeze, or dry as much as she could. During a time when they raised chickens, she would prepare completely well-balanced meals grown or raised entirely in their backyard.
