Matthew Lynn Germaine

Feb 6, 2023

Matthew Lynn Germaine passed away from end-stage liver disease with his mother by his side on February 1, 2023. He was born in Provo, Utah on March 27, 1989 to David Lynn and Sherri Wood Germaine. He was the third of five children.

Matt was a happy and energetic child. He had a creative imagination. He grew up surrounded by cousins who were his best friends. He loved and excelled at youth sports where he was coached by his dad or his Uncle Joel. He attended schools in Provo and graduated from Provo High School in 2007 where he played baseball and played guitar in the Jazz Band. He later attended the University of Utah. He was an extremely talented musician. He wrote and composed amazing songs and performed in local venues.

The first of Matt’s struggles began when he lost his father at the tender age of 10 years old. At the age of 19 Matt developed schizophrenia, and everything he loved about his life was taken away from him. This cruel and debilitating disease caused him immense torment, and every day was a struggle for him just to survive. Despite these adversities he did his best, and if asked how he was doing, he always said “as well as can be expected”.

Matt was an amazing uncle, and his nieces and nephews were the light of his life. When he wasn’t expected to live in 2018, his nieces and nephews were his motivation to keep fighting. He loved to give gifts that were carefully and thoughtfully chosen. He was incredibly witty and had a unique sense of humor. He had a goal to make his mother laugh at least once a day after which he’d say “gotcha”. He was especially close to his aunt Sharla and considered her to be his second mother.

Matt had a huge heart and he loved unconditionally. If someone was struggling, Matt would be there and was a voice of comfort. He was our ultimate cheerleader.

Matt is survived by his mother and stepfather, Sherri and Blayn Corwin; siblings: Nate Germaine (Traci), Nikki Reardon (Randy), Melissa Fernandez (Gaston), Natalie Germaine (Seth Lee); step-sister Shannon Corwin; grandparents Lew and Yvonne Wood; 15 nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles; and numerous cousins.

Matt was preceded in death by his father, David Germaine; uncle, Blaine Wood; aunt, Raeleen Golding; and grandparents, Harold and Virginia Germaine.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 10th, 11:00 a.m., 1850 West 1550 North, Provo with a visitation for family and friends from 9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. There will be an additional visitation Thursday, February 9th, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the same location. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.premierfuneral.com.
