John Scott Horman

John Scott Horman, age 78 of Pleasant Grove, UT passed away while surrounded by loved ones on January 13, 2023, due to natural causes.

Scott was born on March 14, 1944, in Salt Lake City, Utah to John Smith Horman (deceased) and Eva Viola Woolley (deceased). From the age of 18 months to adulthood, he was raised lovingly by Martha Washington Barton and John Horman.

After graduating from Murray High School, he went on to study and graduate from the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree in Speech Education. Scott met his wife, Karen Gee, at the University of Utah and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in September 1967. They had three children: Chad, Derrik and Erika.

Scott worked for more than 30 years in Media Services at Brigham Young University. He and Karen toured the world with the Brigham Young University International Folkdance Ensemble. Scott was the Technical Director for the group. He also designed and constructed the sets for nineteen Christmas Around the World performances. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in the bishopric of a YSA ward and as a Stake Executive Secretary in a YSA Stake. He and Karen served a mission in the Family and Church History Headquarters Mission.

He additionally devoted many years of service to the Boy Scouts of America. He served as a Scoutmaster for many years as well as serving in many District Leadership positions. Scott received various Leadership Awards and received the Silver Beaver Award for his service. He also had the opportunity to serve on BSA Woodbadge Leadership Courses. He spent most of his retirement with family while enjoying various hobbies such as woodworking, model building, traveling, fishing, glamping, Dutch Oven cooking and grilling.

He is survived by his wife Karen, children and spouses Chad and Marnie, Derrik and Kristie, Erika and Adam and 11 grandchildren with a great-grandchild coming in May, mother Martha Ashby and sister Kaye Babcock.

A Viewing will be held Thursday, January 19, 2023, from 6:00-8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 20th at 11:00 AM with an additional viewing prior from 9:30-10:30 AM. Both Viewings and Funeral Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Battle Creek 4th Ward, 1106 East 200 South, Pleasant Grove, Utah. Interment in Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.
