Sharon Banks, the cheerful matriarch of the Banks family, exited life’s stage on July 11th, 2023. In her characteristic style, she took her final bow peacefully in her sleep. She lived her life with grace and tenacity, creating a legacy of love, laughter, and lasting memories. Sharon was born in American Fork, Utah, on September 9, 1949, to Glenn and Carol Miller. As the eldest of three children, she charted a course that was anything but ordinary. Her childhood was filled with rock collections, making mother’s day crowns of lilacs for her mom, agonizing algebra classes, and a fear of birds (thanks, Mark). The highlight of high school was when she was presented the silver megaphone cheerleading necklace. For 51 years, filled with laughs, tears, and the odd disagreement about the necessity of yet another piece of antique furniture, Sharon was married to Alan Banks. She initially spotted Alan at a stake dance and later agreed to date even though they shared the same height and weight (he later grew, much to her relief). They rallied through life’s challenges as if they were tennis matches, always ready for the next serve. She tried to pass on her love for New York, Andre Agassi, pink sugar cookies and Broadway musicals to her three sons Brett, Cory, and Rustin, who continue her legacy alongside their partners and the daughters she always wanted, Kami, Lindsey, and Tara. Sharon was the sort of mom who perfectly embodied the loving chaos of raising three boys. Her life was proof that humor, resilience, and love can create an extraordinary story. Sharon’s 11 grandkids were her sunshine. She loved nothing more than their giggles, their stories, and their big, bright futures. Every pancake baked, every craft made, every hug given made her day. Her love for them was endless. They’ll always remember their grandma’s special love for them. And though we’re saying goodbye for now, we know that somewhere out there she’s probably organizing a celestial cheerleading squad or trying to figure out the best places to shop in heaven. Sharon, we’ll miss you until we meet again. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Sharon’s life on July 18, 2023 at 11:00 am in the Canyon View Ward chapel located at 10500 North Janie Lane, Highland 84003. A viewing will be held prior to services from 9:30 – 10:45 am prior to services. The interment will take place at the Highland City Cemetery.
