Sherman “Ted” Danner

Jun 13, 2023

Ted Danner left this world peacefully on Wednesday, June 7, 2023. Ted was a gentle and generous soul, with a shot of spice. Born in Heber City, Utah on December 9, 1952 to Shanna Milliner and Merrill Keith Danner, Ted spent his early years playing with dogs and friends in the fields near Heber City. In the summers he worked hard bailing hay and digging ditches. The hard work paid off when he became a very skilled wrestler for Wasatch High School. He became an Eagle Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow with the love and support of Paul Mitchell. Ted served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Rome, Italy and then returned to complete schooling to become a nurse. He worked at several different hospitals in Utah, as well as a short time in Saudi Arabia. Ted married Stacy Shelton August 31, 1977 (later divorced) and had five children. On October 8, 2001, he married Karen Openshaw. They were sealed August 14, 2003 in the Jordan River temple, and later, two adopted daughters were also sealed to them. Ted loved golf, racquetball where he frequently played for “the championship of the world,” and vitamin C: cookies, Coke and chocolate. He also liked to build useful things, small and large, with PVC. Ted will be remembered by most for the quiet service he gave. He was known for mowing lawns and shoveling sidewalks in the neighborhood, he provided care and nursing services to many neighbors and friends, and gave away many sets of boots to hospital patients departing into the snow or rain.

Ted is survived by his wife, Karen; his children Summer, Ian (Wayne), Cameron (Travis), Sean, Olivia and Claire; his sister Terry Hunt; his stepbrothers Glen Van Wagoner and Doug Van Wagoner; six grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Pearce; his sister Thressa Wright; his stepfather Doyle Van Wagoner; and his stepbrother Lynn Van Wagoner.
