Larry S Jeffery
Larry S Jeffery, age 86, of Orem, passed away at his home on Monday, March 13, 2023. Larry was born on June 21, 1936 in Delta, Utah to Eldro Ether Jeffery and Leona Inga Skeem. He grew up around many relatives and enjoyed spending time with family. Larry married Raili A. Leppäniemi on November 7, 1959 and they were sealed in the London England Temple on December 5, 1959. He was a faithful husband and dedicated father of seven children. Larry and Raili raised their family in many locations, including North Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, and Colombia, South America. They enjoyed traveling together and visited many countries and each of the states in the United States.
Larry grew up on a farm during the Depression and World War II years. His parents encouraged education and he earned a B.S. in Agronomy from Utah State University and a PhD in Agronomy and Horticulture from North Dakota State University. He taught at the University of Nebraska, University of Tennessee, and Brigham Young University. He also worked with graduate students doing field research. Larry published numerous articles, papers, and a book with Harri J. Lorenzi, Weeds of the U.S. and Their Control (1987).
Larry served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from August 1956 until February 1959 in Finland. He had a firm belief in Jesus Christ and served throughout his life in many capacities for his church. He also served for decades as a Boy Scout leader. Larry and Raili served two missions together in Damascus, Syria and in Helsinki, Finland from 2005 – 2008. He is survived by his wife (Raili), 3 of his siblings Duane, Gayla, and David; all 7 of his children Johan, Allan, Steve, R. Dale, Tiina, Paula, and Katri; 27 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 31st at 11:00 am, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 950 South 50 East, Orem, Utah where a viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Interment in the Delta City Cemetery, 350 East 750 North Delta, Utah at 3:00 pm.
