Dorothy Madsen Bramwell

Dorothy Madsen Bramwell passed away on March 20, 2023. She was the 13th of 14 children born to Roland Adolphus and Abigail Rees Madsen in Brigham City, Utah on December 15, 1926. She married Stanley Kent Bramwell on December 18, 1953 in the Salt Lake City temple, and together they had five children. She graduated from Box Elder High and LDS Seminary. She attended Utah State University and Brigham Young University. She worked at the telephone no company in the days of “Number Please” and as a secretary at Bushnell Hospital, the Boy Scouts, Mountain Bell, and an insurance company. She served a mission in 1950-51 in the Central States Mission. After her mission she had the unique experience of living in the Beehive House in Salt Lake City. It was during this time that she met Stan Bramwell who had recently returned from his mission to Argentina. After they married, Stan graduated from the University of Utah and received his Air Force ROTC commission. They then moved to Texas to begin their military life. For the next 30 years, Dorothy enjoyed living in seven U.S. states, two foreign countries, and one U.S. territory, and traveling throughout the world. Wherever she lived, she served in the wards and branches teaching and sharing her talents. After Stan’s retirement, they returned to their California home in Fairfield. In 1993 Dorothy and Stan were called to serve as office missionaries in the Santiago, Dominican Republic mission and their mission was extended when Stan was called as Mission President. After they returned from their mission in 1997, Stan was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and passed away nine months later. In 1999, Dorothy moved to Orem, Utah where she lived for 24 years until she passed away. She is survived by daughters Kathleen, Shauna Ogden (Doug), sons Christopher, Scott (Kym), Mark (Malinda), 12 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, siblings Wayne (Evelyn), Lola Tingey (Willis), Horace, Mildred Stowe Anderson (Hessel, Ed), Clyde (Rose), Grace Pratt (Al), Amy Beecher (Asa), Laura Weber (John), Afton Bingham (Earl), Carl (Jneil), Fred (Ruth), Milton (Mary), Delbert Madsen. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at 11am at Nelson Family Mortuary located at 4780 N University Avenue in Provo, with visitation beginning at 10am. Burial will be at the Rockville Cemetery in Fairfield, California on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the LDS Church missionary fund.
