Gerald “Jerry” LeRoy Erickson

Gerald “Jerry” LeRoy Erickson passed away at the age of 84 on Sunday, May 7, 2023. He was born on May 23, 1938, in Lehi, Utah to Alma Manuel and Irene Elizabeth Turner Erickson. Jerry was baptized as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on June 1, 1947. Jerry graduated Lehi High School in 1956 and then attended Brigham Young University on a wresting scholarship and Utah Technical College. On March 21, 1958, Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Iris Marie Heinzig in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They raised two daughters, Barbara and Kim, and two sons, Alan and Robert.
Jerry was very good at sports but focused on football and wrestling his senior year of high school. He was the first Utah State Wrestling Champion from Lehi High School in his weight division (123 pounds). He worked as a career sheet metal worker and was a member of the Utah Sheet Metal Workers Local 312. He served many years on the Local 312 Board and was honored by the Sheet Metal Workers International Association for 40 years of continuous service. He joined the Utah Army National Guard, served many years, and spent 4 months in Germany with the 1457th Engineers during the Desert Storm war. He served the Lehi LDS Fourth Ward for many, many years as the scout master taking young men to the top of the High Uintas. His passion was collecting coins and had done so since he was a child. He donated several coins and coin collections to Hutchings Museum and loved giving shiny half dollars to new people he met. In the early years with his family, he loved camping, fishing, bow hunting, planting a very large garden, and touring the western coast with stops at Disneyland. Later in life coin collecting and golfing were his focus along with playing with the grand and great-grand kids.
Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Irene Elizabeth Turner Erickson; father, Alma Manuel Erickson; older brother, Alma Erick Erickson; younger Baby Sister; and younger brother, Max Allen Erickson. He is survived by his children Jerry Alan Erickson (Leslie), Barbara Ann Erickson, Kim Iris Erickson Holindrake (Russell), and Robert Alma Erickson as well as 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wing Mortuary, 118 East Main, Lehi, Utah. A Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023, at 11 a.m. with a prior viewing at 10 a.m. held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Meadow View Stake Center, 851 North 1200 East, Lehi, Utah. Flowers may be sent to Wing Mortuary.
