Nov 6, 2023

February 25, 1941 — October 30, 2023

Star Idaho — David Lynn Voegele returned to his heavenly home on October 30th, 2023, after a well-fought battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family and passed peacefully at home.

He was born on February 25,1941, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to his parents Olive Louise Chalfant and Vernon Paul Voegele. He moved frequently in his younger years, living in Arkansas, South Carolina, Illinois, Alabama, California, and Utah.

He was extremely active and loved playing sports. He played football, basketball, and baseball for the College of Southern Utah. He also shared his passion for sports as a coach throughout his life. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Northwestern States Mission, which covered parts of Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. He also served in the Army National Guard.

Dave married Dixie Rae Roberts on September 20, 1963, in the Manti, Utah Temple. He attended Brigham Young University, where he graduated with a degree in Accounting. He worked as an accountant for General Electric in Virginia and Kentucky. In 1974, they settled in Orem, Utah, where Dave built and maintained a successful State Farm insurance agency until his retirement in 2010.

Dave was active in his community and served as the president of the Chamber of Commerce in Orem for a time. He was active in Search and Rescue as well as the American Legion. He loved the outdoors and was always up for an adventure. He loved snowmobiling, hunting, boating, and horseback riding.

Dave was well-loved and respected by his church community, and he served in many different callings. He was a bishop twice, served with the young men’s organization, and was the ward clerk. He diligently cared for and served everyone around him. Dave was completely selfless, always lending out his tools and equipment to anyone who needed them. He also lovingly cared for his ailing wife Dixie for many years until the end of her life in 2004.

On December 15, 2007, he married Marilee Hawkes Robertson in McCall, Idaho. They were later sealed in the Boise Idaho temple in 2009. They were so grateful for the companionship they found in each other. They loved traveling to visit their grandkids all over the country. Dave lived in Star, Idaho, but was happiest in McCall where he spent much of his time, enjoying the outdoors and the lake.

Dave is preceded in death by his wife Dixie. He is survived by his six children: Cecilia Call (Kevin), Tamera Hull (Royce), Catherine Hunt (Dave), Kirsten O’Reilly (Kelly), Emily Larsen (Travis), and Michael Voegele; wife of 15 years Marilee Voegele; 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; six step-children; and 26 step-grandchildren. Even with such a large blended family, he had a personal relationship with each child, in-law, and grandchild. He had a unique ability to make each person feel important and loved. He will be sorely missed.

At Dave’s request, no formal funeral service will be held.
