David Lloyd Laycock

Nov 24, 2023

David Lloyd Laycock passed away Sunday, November 19th 2023, surrounded by loving family members.

Dave, as he would say, was born at a very young age in American Fork, Utah on August 27th, 1942. His parents were Albert (Bert) Laycock & Helen Kooyman Laycock.

He attended schools in American Fork, Utah. After graduating from high school, at the age of 17 he joined the U.S. Navy. In the Navy he served on the USS Tills and the USS John Willis as a Fire Control Technician (Gunfire Systems) during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962.

After his time in the Navy, he met and later married Sarah “Sally” Kathleen Beck. Together they celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on October 1, 2023. Dave and Sally are parents of Wade (Sondi) Laycock, Leslie (Andy) Winter, Michael (Chelsie) Laycock and Matthew Laycock. The joy of their lives are their 16 grandkids, their significant others, and 10 great grandkids.

Dave is survived by his brother Leroy K. Laycock and sister, Rebecca (James) Fillmore.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Art, Clifford, Gerrold, Ronald; and sister, Shirley.

Dave was employed at Dugway Proving Grounds and for the Tooele Army Depot where he worked on The Nerve Agent Disposal Project as an Electronic Technician and later at EG&G as a Calibration Coordinator. Dave was also a part of the Utah National Guard 1457 unit for 20 years. At the age of 49, Dave was deployed to Germany to serve in Operation Desert Storm. He retired with 24 years of military service and always took great pride in the opportunity to serve.

Grandpa Dave was a man of many skills and talents. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, woodworking, gardening and knife making. Some of his favorite memories were on the seat of a Honda Gold Wing with his wife Sally. Grandpa Dave and Grandma Sally bought their cabin in Fruitland, Utah which soon became a special place for all who entered. A place for family to build relationships and friends to become family. Grandpa knew the real meaning of family and always made a way for people to feel loved. Everyone who knew Grandpa knows that his love is full of simple words and actions.
