Lynn Hazel Shumway

Nov 28, 2023

July 7, 1948 to November 26, 2023

“I have had a good life”

Lynn was born in Seaford, Sussex, England to Maurice Joseph Howard Willis and Joann Eileen May Jordan Willis. She was the second of three children; Sandra was older and Bob came along later. When she was 5, the family moved to New Zealand, where her father served in the Air Force.

She was married twice, Kirini is the Maori name of her first husband. Shumway is the name of her second husband. She liked to say she practiced ‘catch and release’ on husbands! She has two children from her first marriage, Pania Turner of Western Australia, and Robert Green (Rob) near Alice Springs, Australia. She is the proud grandmother of 9 and great grandmother of 3.

Her vocation was education, where she held many positions, in New Zealand, Australia, and Utah, loving most those which found her at the front of a classroom. Most recently, she taught and changed lives for the better at Ivy Hall Academy on West 820 North in Provo.

Prior to acquiring her teaching position in Provo, she worked as an archivist for FARMS indexing and storing images relating to the Dead Sea Scrolls.

She was an avid fly fisher, recreational biker (Provo to Mexico, Provo up to Yellowstone - all those hills!!). She hiked from the Canadian border to Provo to promote literacy, with a llama for company.

She was also an avid genealogist and the parish online clerk for Seaford, Sussex, England.

Her favorite quotation can be found plastered in many locations, “Not all who wander are lost”. She had an adventurous spirit.

Lynne had been battling cancer for several years, starting chemotherapy in 2020. Not enough can be said for the wonderful care given her by Dr. Brent Esplin and his team at Provo Oncology. Many thanks also to IHC Hospice team of nurses and aides for their thoughtful concern for her comfort and wellbeing.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 30, 2023, at the Berg Drawing Room Chapel, 185 East Center Street, Provo, Utah. Later her ashes will be scattered in the waters west of the San Juan Islands in Washington State. Condolences may be expressed at www.bergmortuary.com.

Starting at $4.32/week.
