Melody Armstrong

Oct 6, 2023

1941 – 2023

Melody Armstrong, beloved wife and mother, passed away at her Elk Ridge home October 1, 2023. She was born Melody Trenker Midgley to parents Calvin P. Midgley and Elsie Trenker on December 27, 1941 in Chicago. She was blessed to grow up among a large extended family in a wooded area in Lake Villa, Illinois. She had two sisters, Joanne (deceased) and Wendy.

Melody met Gerald Armstrong while attending Brigham Young University. They loved to dance and went dancing together frequently. They were married on December 21, 1963 in the Manti Temple, and remained affectionately devoted to one another for nearly 60 years.

Melody had many talents and interests. Her love of music was deep and eclectic. She loved to learn, and teach her family, about different cultures. Her home is full of music, books, and recipes from around the world. She made family get-togethers delightful with her superb cooking and love of family traditions. Her quick wit kept everyone on their toes, and her grace and beauty lifted any occasion. Although shy by nature, she loved others sincerely and without judgement.

Melody was a devoted mother who loved her family deeply. She was fiercely protective of her children and husband and would not allow a disparaging remark to be made about them. She was happy to welcome the spouses of her children and grandchildren into the family and loved them just as her own.

Melody loved the gospel and always remained a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was devoted to the doctrine of eternal families and longed to always be together with her family.

Melody was not immune to the difficulties of mortality. Physical and emotional problems proved very trying for her, and she was hospitalized many times. She was blessed to have the unwavering care of her spouse through those challenging times.

Melody Armstrong is survived by her husband Gerald; their four children, Arlene (Kelly) Rasmussen, Seth (Tifani), Noel (Jessica), and James; 13 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family expresses their appreciation for A Plus hospice service, and the devoted professionals who became part of our family during her care.
