Ann Laney Given

Aug 20, 2024

The beautiful soul Ann Laney Given, 83, passed away in peace on August 18, 2024. Ann was born on January 12, 1941, bringing light to the coldest time of the year. She continued to be that brightness wherever she lived. Most of her life was lived in Springville, Orem, and American Fork, Utah. She was a Utah county girl through and through.

She was a stand for her family, her church, and her country. She served in the LDS church in every way possible. She even got her degree in genealogy and absolutely loved serving in that area whenever possible. She loved the constitution, striving for a united country. Kindness was Ann’s gift to this world.

Ann worked at many places throughout her life, from American Savings in Springville to her dream job working for BYU. She worked in the multicultural education department and then at her favorite department, KBYU, where she was the department secretary and inspired others through her kindness daily. She retired from BYU to enjoy her family and the great outdoors.

Ann’s parents were Lois Elaine Boyer Laney, Mark Anderson, and Leland Culbert Laney. She also had a sweet sister, Sharon Laney Bethancourt. Ann, or most of us call her Annie, married Robert Lee Jacobsen and had four children while married: Robert Kirk Jacobsen, Todd Lee Jacobsen, Tracy Jacobsen, and Angie Jacobsen Smith. She was also a loving stepmother to her spouses’ children and their great-grandchildren. She has 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Ann was and is always striving for kindness in the world, and her wish is for each of us to commit to renewing our promises and start that with kindness, no matter how small, to begin the process of healing so we can all be united in our families, communities, and country.

All are welcome to attend an Open House, which will be held on Thursday, August 22, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, at Utah Valley Mortuary, 1966 West 700 North, Lindon, Utah.
