G. Charles Jex

1931 – 2024

G. Charles Jex passed away peacefully at his home in Laketown, Utah on Friday, February 2, 2024. Charles was born to George Frederick and Florence Headman Jex on October 23, 1931 in Provo, Utah. He attended schools in Provo, Utah and graduated from Provo High School. Charles married Doris K. Hunter on February 5, 1951 and was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They celebrated 67 years together before Doris passed away in December 2018. After Doris passed away, he spent his time checking on local construction, visiting with many friends and always riding at a snail’s pace around the beloved Round Valley. He was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many different organizations like, scout master, his favorite, bishop, stake young men’s president, high counselor, young single adult and youth advisor. He served as the stake president of the Paris Idaho Stake for many years and established lifelong friendships. In high school Charles played football at Provo High. In Charles and Doris’ early married life, many days and nights were spent playing fast-pitch softball. Often he and his brother Lynn Jex played on the same team, Lynn pitching and Charles was the team catcher. Charles could throw a fast-pitch softball well into his eighties. He and Doris served for 6 years as ordinance workers in the Logan Temple and they were also called to serve in the Lithuania Mission for 18 months. Charles and Doris had 10 children, Debra (Keith) Steere, Fred, deceased (Denee’) Jex, Gail (Mark) Eborn, Lisa (Kerry) Nielsen, Jean Ann, deceased, Craig (Ruth) Jex, Joylyn (Shelton) Taylor, JaNell (Douglas) Spencer, Jeff (Rachel) Jex, Jennifer (Don) Mackey. In addition there are many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Charles worked as a lineman for Provo City Power in Provo, Utah and Utah Power and Light in Laketown, Utah. He was a master gardener who loved planting flowers every year to watch them bloom through the season. For the past several years he and his brother Rodney Jex, had a contest to see who could grow the tallest tomato tower. His tallest achievement was 13 feet 6 inches and could be seen growing above the well-known Jex’s chicken condo. Charles and Doris raised chickens, beef and a few lambs while living in Laketown. Later in life he built a pigeon keep and raised roller pigeons. If you came into his yard it was hard to miss the pigeons flying overhead. He was teased by many about being the Pigeon Whisperer. A special thank you to the Laketown Ward members, especially the young men who set up Zoom sacrament meetings each week and brought in the sacrament. Their kindness was always rewarded with a Hostess cupcake/Twinkie, a soda pop and always a story or two. Many thanks to Atlas Home Health Care and Hospice for helping take care of Charles. Specifically, Kylie Argyle. Funeral arrangements are by Allen-Hall Mortuary of Logan, Utah. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at 12 pm at East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery in Provo located at 4800 North 650 East, Provo, Utah.
