After retirement he and Nellie Mae continued to travel by car, airplane, and cruise ship around the US and Europe.

Following Nellie Mae’s death in 2002, John was remarried to Dorothy Miller Daymont on Sept 10, 2005, and moved to Sarasota, FL where he enjoyed sunshine and the company of nearby family and friends. In 2021 John and Dorothy moved to Summerfield Retirement in Orem, UT.
