Leland “Buck” Giles Carter

Jan 23, 2024

1936 – 2024

Our beloved grandpa, great-grandpa, father and husband Buck passed following an emergency surgery on January 22nd 2024, four days after celebrating his 88th birthday with his family. He was born January 18th 1936 to Orville and Caroline Carter. He was the 7th of 12 children. He was born and raised in Lindon where he got the nickname “Buck.” On April 6th 1960 he married the love of his life, Rosemary Pasquali.

Buck was known for his giant hands and a heart to match. As a young man he helped his father at Carter’s service station and learned how to drive in the coal trucks. In 1964, he opened Carter’s Welding to help the many local farmers and friends. In his welding years, he helped weld the roof on Purple Turtle, and even welded the wheels on the generator that helped to light the original G. After the welding industry slowed, together he and his son expanded to Carter’s Auto Repair, which is celebrating 60 years of business this year. Buck was proud of all of his family and especially of his special friendship and ability to pass on his knowledge and skills to Todd, Amy and Tyler who will continue his legacy at Carter’s.

Buck was an outdoors man, he loved to hunt Mount Timpanogos with his brothers, snowmobile and 4 wheeling. He hiked Timp to the Glass House and always had good stories to tell of his many adventures in the hills of Utah County. He was passionate about his 1927 Oldsmobile that he meticulously restored. You could always find him at car shows in the summer and bringing home awards.

Buck was a true sports fan and was a die-hard BYU fan. Football, basketball, baseball; if the Cougars were playing, you were sure to hear it. If it wasn’t on TV he would have his hand-held radio out listening at top volume. This past year Buck made a new pastime of watching the restoration of the G and could be seen most days with his binoculars tracking the progress.

He is survived by his loving wife Rosemary; children Toni (Dave) Frye, and Todd (Francine) Carter. Grandchildren Tina (Paul) Williams, Tori (Austin) Parks, Amy Carter, Tyler Carter.

Great-grandchildren: Dave, Maggie, Porter, Clara, Zac, Emmett and Wesley.

Preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, and 2 sisters.
