Ann Marie Doty Lawton, 84, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2024 in Eagle, Idaho. She was born on August 8, 1939, to Dr. Horace W. Doty, Jr and Adrienne Loosli in St. Cloud, Minnesota while her father served in the Army, joining her beloved older brother George to complete the family.

The Army took her family to many parts of the country. After attending Olympus High School in Salt Lake City, Utah; she graduated from the Moorestown Friends School in New Jersey. As the daughter of an Army Lieutenant Colonel, she lived the life of a debutant participating in many cotillions. She loved spending her summers as a youth in Ashton, Idaho with her extended family. She met her first husband, Willard H. Godfrey, Jr, while attending Brigham Young University where she was active in the Tokalon social club. She graduated with a degree in elementary education.

As a mother and educator, teaching was her life-long passion. Her goal was to bring happiness to others. She was a kind and gentle mother. She treated the friends of her children as if they were her own. She made everyone feel special. She loved everyone. Early in her career she taught elementary school in Utah and Arizona. Later, she returned to teaching while also being a single mother raising her three children. She taught at Sage Creek Elementary in Springville, Utah where she was beloved by her students and their parents.

She married Robert Lawton on February 18, 1994, in the Provo Utah Temple. Together they actively participated in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as teachers, choir members, and leaders. They served two missions. The first was in Vladivostok, Russia and the second was in Helsinki, Finland. They also enjoyed their time as volunteers during the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. Most importantly, they found great joy in family activities.

She was preceded in death by her husband, mother, father, brother, and sister-in-law Susan. Ann Marie is survived by her three children: Ben (Andrea) Godfrey, Shawn (Julie) Godfrey and Kimberly (Michael) Conger and six step children: Anita (Darrell) Thomas, Marketta (George) Aguilar; Anneli (John) Motter; Michael (Esther) Lawton; Katya (Dmitry) Kadomtsev and Jonathan (Jenny) Lawton; and too many grandchildren and great grandchildren to count.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 11 am in the Sunset 10th Ward Chapel at 1402 S. 570 W. St, Provo, Utah 84601. A viewing will be held Friday, July 12, 2024, from 6 to 8 pm at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary located at 495 South State Street, Orem, Utah, and Saturday before the funeral from 9:30-10:30 am. Burial will be in the Provo Cemetery.
