Geraldine Smith Calder

Geraldine Smith Calder, age 90, of Mapleton, Utah passed away on the 5th of July, 2024. She was born 30 August 1933 in Ogden, Utah to Ariel Tucker and

Josephine Evans Smith.

At the age of 4 ½ years Geraldine, with her parents and family, moved to Johannesburg, South Africa where they lived for 10 years. The family returned to America in 1949 and settled in Logan, Utah. Geraldine graduated from Logan High School, then went on to attend Utah State University.

Geraldine married Paul H. Calder 19 September 1952 in the Logan temple. Geraldine and Paul are the parents of seven children raised in Spanish Fork, Utah and Grand Junction, Colorado.

Geraldine has served in many callings in the church and in the community in Spanish Fork, UT and in Grand Junction, CO and is known for her service rendered to others. After Paul retired, Geraldine and Paul served missions to Cape Town, South Africa, Windhoek, Namibia and Bristol, England. They were ordinance workers in the Vernal and Provo temples for 11 years.

Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents, Ariel T., and Josephine E. Smith; sister and husband, Shirley and Glen Calder; brother, Roland; sister-in-law Valerie Smith (Ariel) and brother-in-law James Gibson (Betty).

Geraldine is survived by her husband Paul H. Calder of Mapleton, Utah; daughter Janet (Kim) Halladay, Stansbury Park, Utah; daughter Carolyn (John) Swenson, Riverton, Utah; daughter Nancy (Ronald) Jensen, Santaquin, Utah; son Ralph (Kristine) Calder, Springville, Utah; daughter Sheila (Michael) LeBaron, South Jordan, Utah; daughter Gloria Dickey, Provo, Utah; and Son Kevin (Sheila) Calder, Loveland, Colorado; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held in the Mapleton 8th ward chapel at 1200 North and 1000 West Mapleton Utah, on Saturday, July 13th at 11:00 AM. There will be a viewing on Friday, July 12th from 6:30-8:00 PM and Saturday, July 13th from 9:30 ­ 10:30 AM at the 8th ward chapel prior to the funeral service. Burial will be at the Springville Evergreen Cemetery from 12:30 ­1:00 PM. Family suggests that rather than flowers, donations be made to charity.
