Catharine Renee Decker Day Overson

Jun 19, 2024

Catharine Renee Decker Day Overson, age 85, of Springville, Utah, passed away Monday, June 17, 2024. She was born April 9, 1939, in Snowflake, Arizona, to Lorenzo Bruyn Decker and Anna Favor Squires Decker. She married on December 28, 1963, being sealed together in the Mesa Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to George Allan Day. In 1982, she married Kay Ross Overson.

Raised by schoolteachers, she developed a deep passion for reading and education. This love led her to graduate from Snowflake High School, attend Northern Arizona University, and earn a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University.

Catharine loved music and was an accomplished violinist from her youth. She taught and played in many orchestras and groups over her lifetime. She also loved numbers and was never happier than when the books were balanced. She worked as a bookkeeper in Vernal, Utah, for Swains Locksmith and in Springville, Utah, for the art museum.

Her unwavering faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ was a cornerstone of Catharine’s life. She served with dedication as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Her service included two missions, one to the Eastern United States as a young sister missionary and another to Ireland in her later years. The temple was a place of solace for her, and she served in both the Provo and Provo City Center Temples.

Catharine is survived by her brother, David Decker; her children, Dana Romney, Tonia Day, Joseph Day, and Catryna Faux; her stepdaughter, Becky Overson; and twelve grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Allan Day and her son David Day in 1975, her husband Kay Overson, her stepson Guy Overson and her grandsons Hinckley Dattage and Ryker Dattage.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. at the Hobble Creek West Stake Center 555 South Averett Avenue in Springville, Utah. A public viewing will be held Friday evening, June 21, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary 211 E. 200 S. in Springville, Utah. There will not be a public viewing before the services on Saturday.
