Mary Carol Nielsen Swenson

Mar 1, 2024

1930 — 2024

On the morning of February 27, 2024, our precious mother and grandmother, Mary Carol Nielsen Swenson was reunited with her eternal companion, beloved son, and many other loved ones. Carol was born September 28, 1930, to Clarence B. Nielsen and Madge Hughes Nielsen in Spanish Fork, Utah. The youngest of three children, Carol was educated in Spanish Fork schools and graduated from Spanish Fork High School. She attended Utah State University for one year and then returned to Spanish Fork where she found her sweetheart Ray Allen Swenson. They were married on June 12, 1950, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were married for 61 years. Ray passed away on March 2, 2012. Together they had five children, two boys and three girls; Allen (Karen deceased) Swenson, Steven (deceased) (Tracy) Swenson, Shauna (Jay) Hatch, Sharon (Blake) Jarvis, and Stacey (Ed) Roberts. They had 16 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Carol worked at Zions Bank for over 20 years where she used her record keeping and organization skills. She loved to bake and was well-known for her famous rolls, pies, and many other family favorites. Carol was a beautiful seamstress with an eye for detail and made many of the girls’ clothes as they were growing up.

Our mom liked to stay busy spending time in the yard and helping on the farm when needed. Mom and Dad loved going for rides or doing anything just to be together. She was a beautiful person inside and out. She never wanted recognition for all her hard work but was constantly in the background supporting Dad and her family. Patient, grateful, proper, classy, always conscious of her appearance were just a few of her most endearing traits. Even until the end she expressed her love and appreciation to those caring for her. We feel so blessed to have seen her example of enduring to the end.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, son, siblings, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all those who helped with the care of our mother over the last few months. We’d like to thank Bonnie Ballard from I Care Hospice Team, Right at Home, and most recently Aspen Senior Care.

We would like to especially thank Marianne Stevenson. She became like family as she spent many days lifting our mother’s spirit, caring for her as if Carol were her own mother.

Main in Spanish Fork on Tuesday, March 5 2024 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 6 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at the LDS meeting house, 3477 East River Bottom Road, Spanish Fork, UT.
